Estimating Ceiling Paint
Here’s our guide on estimating ceiling paint in metric for Australian ceilings:
Measure the ceiling:
- Multiply the length (in meters) by the width (in meters) of your ceiling to get the area in square meters. Include alcoves or other indented areas.
Factor in doors and windows (optional): - If you’re painting the entire room, including walls, subtract the area of doors and windows from the total ceiling area. This is because you won’t be painting these areas.
Consider coverage: - Divide the square area of your ceiling by the coverage area listed on the paint tin (usually in square meters per liter). This will give you the number of liters needed for one coat.
Account for multiple coats: - Most ceilings require two coats for even coverage. Multiply the number of liters needed for one coat by two to get the total amount of paint required.
Pro tip: - Round up the final number slightly to account for spills, drips, and cutting in around the edges.
